You are invited to an international exhibition of new large Digital Prints on Canvas based on original collages by the artist, showing at the only underground pinball joint in the San Francisco Bay Area!
John Sheridan prints from images he has found in his (endless) search for meaningful content in American culture. There is much to learn from the past 50 plus years of portable imagery made up of new and antique decals, stickers - and he has printed it on canvas. Its appearance in the one and only underground pinball joint in the United States is no coincidence as his work too is pushed to the margins by the art world and culture - and it remains an underground phenomenon, known and appreciated by the few.
Sheridan uses an array of colorful and always surprising images and words which are both art and also come from and target American working class. The images contain compelling and controversial elements which cannot be separated from the great energy that has always marked the poor and blue collar working culture of the country. Similar to where jazz, rock, Hip-Hop, carnival, cartoons, dream machines, comix and games like pinball come from, these works on canvas explode with superheroes, pinups, cars, numbers, logos and images from the deep (or not so deep) popular unconscious as well as from the most persuasive propaganda machine ever - advertising.
Find out about this must see exhibition at the Lucky Ju Ju trans-gallery, in Alameda, CA. Come and play a lot of pinball!
The exhibit will rock from Friday September 7 through Sunday September 30. The joint’s hours: Friday and Saturday evenings only from 6pm midnight! # # #
